About Corey Sharek
I began my musical journey very
early-on with my folks always blaring records. Mom never cleaned, cooked or
disciplined us without some AOR Format super group rattling from the Kenwood and
JBL’s. A great many roads have been traveled since those days of Windex, Comet,
Fleetwood Mac and Journey. At the impressionable age of 7, my first instrument
came home: an acoustic guitar. By my 16th birthday, I was sharing
stages locally with many of Dallas’s most celebrated blues players. Later on,
I was sharing the stage with some of the most talented songwriters and musicians in
Americana.
By the end of high school, my musical direction began to look like a map of curvy roads. At some point in that era I discovered bass guitar and became severely impassioned. I also took up drums as to round out my musical experience. By then my tastes expanded to include music of all genres. I was sitting at my first real job when a songwriter friend of mine invited me to be his low-end accompanist at a dive named the Lone Star Café & Club. A local radio station was hosting an open-mic that night. Little did I know at that time that my world had just split open and all remnants of the past were now obsolete. I dove headlong into this scene and although I was well steeped in Texas music of all kinds, I would end up with a predilection to Americana and Texas Country. So, after nearly a decade in OKOM, I now reside on the other side of the recordings. It is a challenge being both an objective listener and a musician, but I think that it helps me to give you, the reader, an honest perspective on the music that we listen to, as well as touch on some of the finer points that go into making these fine recordings. Feel free to email me any questions you may have about the making and recording of our music and I will be honored to share what I know.
