Alex Whitmore

Bar Farcist II

by Miss Lana

If you are familiar with Alex Whitmore, you know he can pen a funny song, and then some.  Bar Farcist II is his second CD to confirm this fact, and if you're looking for a fun CD that will make you smile and laugh, then this is the one...I guarantee it.  The first song on the CD is "Daddy Let Me Drive", in which all the reasons why Daddy should let him drive are given in poet fashion.

"I Just Don't Look Good Naked Anymore" is the first of two cover songs on this CD, a song penned by Sheb Wooley and Dick Feller, that works perfectly with this album. Alex can deliver a song like this one in a way most could not...it's his kind of tune.

"Caffeine", written by Alex and Dale Marsh, is a humorous song about having too much caffeine.  With lyrics like

"I think I've had too much caffeine,

Well, let me show you what I mean

My hands are shaking ears are ringin'

forgetting half the words I'm sayin'

My appearance is extreme

I think I've had too much caffeine

Can't get no sleep, can't stay awake

My friends all think that I'm a flake

Just watch me squirmin' in this seat

My motor's racin' but I'm beat

I've learned to hate that evil bean

I think I've had too much caffeine..."

this song just get better and funnier as it progresses.

"The Breastman", written by Alex, is one of the best songs (and most risque) on the CD.  It is so cleverly written that you get completely lost in the lyrics and it wouldn't matter what kind of music accompanied the story.  But the music is as important as the words because without it, you would not have a "song".  This is a song you have to hear to appreciate how well crafted and amusing it really is.

Alex shows what a performer he is with "Four Nights Drunk", where he sings the story about coming home drunk and finding Kinky Friedman in his bed...it's another one you have to hear to appreciate, especially the way he sings the wife's part of the song.  Hilarious!

Alex enlists the help of his lovely wife, Marti, on "The Opera Singer" and together they sing the song about...well, about themselves actually.  They get married and have a couple of kids that can sing like a bell.  A perfect love story in its own right.

The last two songs on the album are as funny as any songs I've ever heard.  Both written by Alex, these songs are some of the best humor songs that have ever been written.  The title itself of "No Thought Unuttered" gives you a glimpse of what you're about to hear, but it's so much more than you expect with a tale of the husband who can't keep his mouth shut.

"No thought unuttered

There’s a smile on his face ‘cause his mind is uncluttered

He should have kept his mouth shut, he should have stuttered

But now it’s no thought unuttered

I saw him yesterday and he had a black eye

He looked kind of sheepish when I asked him why

He was talking to his buddy when the wife walked in

He said I sure would like to sleep with you again

Ch

So the next time a thought pops into your head

Maybe you should think it better left unsaid

Instead of feedin’ fire with words that fan it

You might be better off…..to just can it."

"Baby Boomer's Lament" could become a classic in my opinion and should.  With help on the CD from other Texas comical musicians Doc Wesson on drums, Curtis Tilton on bass and Justin Alverson on guitar, the song is a story about a baby boomer guy who gets his medicines mixed up and it will keep you laughing out loud.  If someone who's played nationally picked up this song, it would be a hit.  I'm just saying that because I believe it to be true.  I'm not a psychic, but I think it would be a song that would catch on and probably become a hit with the right exposure.  This CD is absolutely one of the funniest CD's you'll hear in 2006.

As most of the funny men of Texas music have an established signature style of their own, so does Alex Whitmore.  He is original, unique and extremely funny.  His musical talent encompasses song writing, beautifully played instruments and an unmistakable twang that is Alex Whitmore.  You should check out at www.2aw.com where you can read the lyrics to songs on this CD and see other albums by Alex Whitmore.  Enjoy a laugh or two with The Bar Farcist and tell 'em Miss :Lana sent you.
