I've been listening to Texicana music for about ten years
now. Actually, I've listened to some of it almost all my life...guys
like Jerry Jeff Walker, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. They started this type of music back in the
70's. It was called "progressive country". Now it's rising in
popularity again with many great new Texas artists like Robert Earl Keen, Charlie
Robison and
Jack
Ingram. Ever heard of
Max
Stalling,
Ed
Burleson,
Davin
James, Mark David
Manders, Brian Burns or Cooder Graw? They are all excellent musicians from Texas that
are considered Americana (or Texicana) musicians.. And they are all
worth a listen or two. I seldom listen to anything else. These
are the true country artists of today and the
future.I have always loved music but became bored with what
Nashville calls country these days. I started looking for an
alternative to the "NashVegas" pseudo pop country with all its glitz and
found the Americana format. It's a mix of country, rockabilly, honky
tonk, western, swing, and even the blues...but it's different. It's
music from the heart that usually tells a story, some true, some not so
true... some funny and some not so funny. Most are written from some
experience in life that touched them in some way...that inspired them to
create a song about it and tell the story. It's called Americana, or
"hard country" or "real country" or "no depression". But because
the movement of this music is so alive in Texas, I have decided to call it
"Texicana", as have some others who follow this genre. There are
excellent artists and musicians who are not from Texas that play this
kind of music, but you won't find any more in quantity or any better in
quality than the selection that Texas has of offer. We don't limit
ourselves to just Texas music, but we try to feature as many Texas artists
as we can.
I spend a lot of time designing this site and enjoy
every minute of it. It's great to be involved in the family that
follows this music so faithfully. I have met many wonderful people
because of this music. I feel genuinely blessed to be a part of the OKOM
(our kind of music) family, and I appreciate their support of what I try to do to promote
the music. Everything we have done so far on this site has been for
the love of the music. The writers who review do so for no
money, but in an effort to promote the music we love. We are not
professional writers, just lovers of the music that like to spread the gospel of
what our kind of music is all about.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you enjoy
my site. Please sign my guestbook before you leave.
Happy Trails...and please visit us again soon
for all the latest in Texas country music and more!
